The Dominican Republic was the first place Colombus landed
Dominican food has a mix of Spanish and French influence
Though Spain claimed the DR, France had a claim on it for a while
The DR is about the size of Maryland
Spanish is the main language there
Mangos, bananas, pinapple, coconuts and many other tropical fruits are found wild and everywhere
Meals usually consist of meat with rice and fruit
A "Ciesta" is taken place everyday from noon to two; all shops and restaurants close and the people return home for lunch and rest.
Population is around 9 million
The DR is located in the central Carribean area and shares the island with Haiti
Main transportation is motorcycles/bikes
Even the poorest families have TVs
