June 6 Last night Mrs.B gave this dairy to me to write about my trip to Dominican Republic. We (My youth group) Leave in ONE DAY!
I cannot wait! To see all those kids. To see God working through us and the people of Dom. Rep. I just can't WAIT! -Karrie Hicks
Day 2 ...Later on after diner, we went around to the city for a church service. We were greeted with loud salsa-like music coming from the tiny building. Ppl banging on tin cans, bongo drums and a small keyboard. Many ppl got up to sing and at the end of every song was followed w/repeated phrases like "Gloria a Dios" and "Gloria" and "Gracias a Dios". When they were done they asked us to sing something. We sang, "Yo tengo gozo" and "Lord we life your name on high". The msessage was translated for us by Israel who has been w/us. Twas about the Jews and the hardening of their hearts. Afterward we were greeted with hugs and handshakes from the kids and hugs and kisses from the woman. Had to stranslate a lot. Just curious questions. Am adopting 3 of the little girls that were there. ;) Jay showed them his videos w/parts from VA. Then preceeded to video tape the kids, at which (when they watched themselves) squeeled and waved at themselves. Was SO adorable. Hated to leave. When we got back to our rooms we found a bird had gotten stuck btwn the screen and concrete in a slit in the wall. With some of my guidings and Jay's scaring it to death, it got free. Then Jay discovered that there was a praying mantis on his neck. He (jokingly) yelled out "AAAA!!! He's biting my jugular!!!" or something. Well, am going to bed now. Bye! -Meagan Reid
